Isle of Palms Recreation | The Post and Courier, Charleston SC ...

The Isle of Palms Recreation Department is offering the following activities. Registration is required for most events. Call 886-8294 or visit www.iop.net.

WELLNESS CONNECTION: 12:15 p.m. May 18. Dr. Jason Gunn from East Cooper Medical Center will discuss Sleep Disorders. More than 50 different sleeping disorders affect more than 18 million Americans each year.

FRIDAY NIGHT SPIKES: May 20. Ages 10-12 at 6 p.m. Ages 13-16 at 7 p.m. $35 resident/$40 nonresident (four sessions) or $10 per session. Children learn and improve the fundamentals of volleyball through drills and instruction aimed at developing the whole player.

PICKUP DODGEBALL GAMES: May 18 from 3:45-5 p.m. Come enjoy variations of dodgeball games. Bring a friend or come on your own.

BARRE FITNESS: Classes start June 6. Every Monday at 9:15 a.m. $10 per class. A fusion of ballet fundamentals, pilates, strength, flexibility and core training.

BASEBALL CAMP (7-12): June 13-17. 9 a.m.-noon. $125 resident/$130 non.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL CAMP (10-15): July 5-8. 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $125 resident/$130 non.

BOYS LACROSSE CAMP (7-18): July 18-22. 9 a.m.-noon. $125 resident/$130 non. Late registration after June 24, additional $15.

GIRLS LACROSSE CAMP (7-18): July 25-29. 9 a.m.-noon. $125 resident/$130 non. Late registration after July 1, additional $15.

RISING STARS BASKETBALL CAMP (5-13): June 20-24. Full-day 9 a.m.-4 p.m. $180 resident/$185 non. Half-day 9 a.m.-noon. $125 resident/$130 non.

SOCCER CAMP (5-13): Camp dates: Aug. 1-5. Full-day 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $180 resident/$185 non. Half-day 9 a.m.-noon. $125 resident/$130 non.

THEATer CAMP (9-16): Aug. 1-12. 9 a.m.-noon. $150 residents/$155 non.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE: Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. 7-10 p.m. $5 at the door. The rock-themed dance will have a photo booth and a temporary tattoo booth.

NEUROBICS: 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. May 10-31. Exercise for the mind. Learn how your memory works and exercises to strengthen your mind. Pre-register.

ADULT HIP-HOP: Thursdays, 7-8:15 p.m. Join group for a great dance fitness class. All levels welcome. $10 drop-in rate.

TOTAL BODY CHALLENGE: 8-9 a.m. Monday-Friday. $7 per class. Or purchase a variety of classes. Cardio/strength aerobics class. Different workout daily.

ZUMBA: 6:45-7:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Four classes $25 resident/$30 non. Eight classes $50 resident/$55 non. $8 per class walk-in. Latin-inspired dancing/fitness class.

Afternoon Yoga: 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. $52 per month/$10 walk-in.

Saturday Yoga: 10-11:15 a.m. $26 per month/$10 walk-in. Gentle yoga.

EVENING YOGA: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Focus on using core muscles, stretching and balancing. $40 resident/$45 non. $7 per class drop-in fee.

SENIOR AEROBICS: 3-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Strengthen muscles, tighten core, work on balance and flexibility. Drop-in: $5 per class; $30 per month.

BOATER EDUCATION: May 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants must register with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and have Social Security number to attend. Participants under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian. Held at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center. Register: www.dnr.sc.gov.

PETER PAN: 7 p.m. May 25-28. $5 general admission. Children 6 and under free. The Isle of Palms Recreation Department in conjunction with The Crabpot Players presents "Peter Pan." Directed by Jimmy Ward. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. Purchase tickets in person at the Isle of Palms Recreation Department. May 28 is sold out.

Canine Good Citizenship: Dogs 6 months and older. Mondays, 7:30-8:30 p.m. May 9-June 27 (no class May 30). $115 resident/$120 non/seven-week session. Dogs must have complete Kinderpuppy or Companion dog class. Dogs will learn advanced training techniques. Lots of behavior solving. Bring dog to first class. Please pre-register at the IOP Rec Center
