If you?ve tried those flashy, online programs that assure you of thousands of dollars overnight, chances are, you have never made a dollar. However, you have learned one very critical secret about making money online. That secret is this, there are no free rides to online success.

Making money online requires a number of skills. These skills are not complex skills, but they are required skills. Without these skills, making money online is practically impossible.

Sadly, nearly all online marketers never discover these skills, for whatever reason. Some have no wish to learn the skills, they are apparently hoping somehow, to generate a quick buck. While others fail to find a mentor willing to teach them these easy, step by step skills.

Most new online marketers simply jump from program to program to program, never make a cent, throw in the towel, and leave the internet forever screaming scam, scam.

However, if you have a strong desire to make money online, and you?re willing to be taught a few new skills, you can be successful. These skills are not complex skills. They are easy to learn. In fact, if you can drive a car, you can learn these basic online marketing skills.

What are these essential skills?

This first skill is not a skill as such, it is essentially a mindset, an inner desire. You need the desire to help others. Any enterprise, whether online or offline, is only as successful as its capability to supply the wants and needs of its customers. Think about this, if Sears was not persistently supplying the goods their customers desire and need, would they have remained in business for more than 100 years?

The next skill is an understanding of the inner workings of the internet. The internet was originally designed to exchange information. It was not meant to be a sales tool. However, after having said that, the exchange of information is necessary to complete any sale. Thus, the internet becomes the perfect sales tool when used within the confines of that information context.

Then of course, you need a simple understanding of website technology and terms. At the very least you need to be able to send and retrieve email. You need to know how to save files to your computer. You need to know what a clickable link or image is. You need a basic understanding of uploading and downloading, an FTP client, and an html editor.

In addition, you need a knowledge of traffic generation. That traffic generation can be through ads, writing articles, social media, pay per click advertising, and many other methods.

And then, you need a simple understanding of sales and marketing. Most people are under the assumption sales and marketing are one in the same. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sales and marketing are two separate and distinct functions. Marketing is the process of creating a connection with, and educating the prospect. In other words, making the prospect feel confident and comfortable in making the purchase. Then, and only then, can a sale take place, which is the exchange of money for the product.

Which brings us to the final skill ? product creation. If a business has no product, it has no sales. If a business has no sales, it is out of business. Most products created and sold online are digital products. However, tangible products can also be marketed and sold online as well.

This may all be quite intimidating to a new online marketer.

However, one method of online marketing requires no online marketing skills, apart from how to drive traffic. This method is known in the industry as affiliate marketing, and many very successful online marketers begin their careers as affiliate marketers. In affiliate marketing, you are simply selling someone else?s product. You then receive a commission for each sale.

No matter if you?re brand new to online marketing, or you?ve been struggling to make money online for years, affiliate marketing is a very simple method you can plug into and start making money online very quickly.

BOSTON ? As part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor, Black Mag LLC, doing business as BMI and as Black Mag Industries, and Craig Sanborn, the company?s president, managing member and primary owner, have surrendered Black Mag LLC?s explosives manufacturing license and will permanently refrain from employing workers in any explosives-related business enterprise.

?What we seek in all cases is for the employer to eliminate hazardous conditions and take effective action to prevent their recurrence,? said Marthe Kent, New England regional administrator for the Labor Department?s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. ?This resolution accomplishes those goals by ensuring that neither Black Mag LLC nor Mr. Sanborn will ever again place employees at risk in any kind of business that uses or makes explosives.?

OSHA cited Black Mag LLC in October 2010 for more than 50 willful, egregious and serious violations of safety standards in connection with a May 14, 2010, explosion at the company?s Colebrook, N.H., facility in which two employees died while manufacturing a gunpowder substitute. The employer contested the citations and fines to the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Black Mag LLC since has withdrawn its notice of contest and agreed to entry of an order that it violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The company has certified that the violations have been abated by termination of all production operations, which occurred when the 2010 explosion destroyed its facility and put it out of business. Because it was licensed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the company was required by OSHA to execute ATF?s Notice of Discontinuance of Business, which the department has turned over to the ATF.

Black Mag LLC and Sanborn also agreed to the entry of a summary enforcement order in the U.S. Court of Appeals. Violation of such an order would permit the department to initiate proceedings for contempt of court, in which potential sanctions could include incarceration to secure compliance.

In the resolution papers, Sanborn agrees that he will not conduct, establish, own or manage by himself, with or through others, any current or future business that is covered anywhere under OSHA?s explosives or process safety management standards if that business employs workers or independent contractors. Additionally, he will have no involvement in any enterprise that has employees if it is located within 1,000 yards of another business that is covered under OSHA?s explosives or process management safety standards.

?While nothing can ever bring Jesse Kennett or Don Kendall back to their loved ones, this resolution is designed to prevent future deaths or injuries,? said Michael Felsen, the Labor Department?s regional solicitor for New England. ?It includes a provision that will allow the Labor Department to charge Mr. Sanborn with contempt in federal court if he violates the terms.?

The settlement agreement has been filed with the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and will become the Commission?s final order on July 21, 2011. After that, the department will file the papers for an enforcement order in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit against both Black Mag LLC and Sanborn.

The original OSHA inspection was conducted by the agency?s Concord Area Office.

Local Amateur Radio Group Receives Award | Emergency Preparedness News

In our very own backyard (Albemarle County Virginia), the Albemarle Amateur Radio Club (AARC) has been awarded the 2011 Amateur Club of the Year.? Congratulations to the club!? There are 600,000 amateur radio operators (also known as ?ham radio?) in the United States (over 2 million worldwide).? The United States is home to over a thousand amateur radio clubs.

So why join a ham radio club?

It provides contact with local radio amateurs.
You can get help building a station.
Clubs often sponsor license exam classes.
Clubs make ham radio more visible in the community.
You can often borrow infrequently used test equipment instead of buying it.
Clubs organize activities such as ?hamfests?, Boy Scout radio merit badge sessions and organize local participation in National Field Day.

In fact, the Albemarle Amateur Radio Club has just completed participating in the AARL?s (American Radio Relay League) 2011 National Field Day.? Two girls killed in fresh Nigeria blast: army (AFP)

KANO, Nigeria (AFP) ? Two girls were confirmed killed and three customs officers wounded Monday in a fresh blast in a north Nigerian city where 25 people died a day earlier when suspected Islamists tossed bombs and fired on a crowded beer garden.

"Three customs officers were seriously injured in the attack while two child vendors -- both of them girls -- were killed in the blast," the army commander of the troubled city of Maiduguri's joint task force, general Jack Okechukwu Nwobo, told AFP.

Residents and witnesses put the death toll at about a dozen, however.

"I was about 100 metres (yards) from the customs bridge roundabout when the blast happened. It was a crowded area. I saw two vans conveying the dead. From my estimation, not less than 10 people were killed in the blast," resident Sheu Abdulkadir told AFP.

A local journalist said he saw several dead bodies on the ground after the blast.

"I counted at least 12," said the journalist, who did not want to be named and said he barely escaped death.

The exact nature of the blast, for which no group has claimed responsibility, was not immediately known.

It came less than 24 hours after suspected Islamists of the Boko Haram sect killed 25 people and wounded at least 30 in one of the deadliest attacks in the city in recent months, on the same day that a special task force of crack troops and security personnel took control of security operations in the city.

Two men riding motorbikes hurled three bombs into a large beer garden, fired shots and sped away after the shock attack, security sources told AFP by telephone from Maiduguri, capital of Borno State.

Security was tightened in Maiduguri on Monday.

A joint task force of soldiers, navy, air force, police, customs, immigration and secret police officers, will remain in the city until law and order is restored, army spokesman General Ralph Isah told AFP.

Amnesty International condemned the fresh attack and urged Nigerian armed groups to stop "senseless" killings of civilians -- singling out Boko Haram for a call to end its "reign of terror."

"These killings are senseless and outrageous. Direct attacks on civilians are prohibited under international law and show a complete disregard for the right to life," Tawanda Hondora, the rights body's deputy director for Africa, said in a statement.

"Boko Haram must stop its reign of terror in the country. No cause can justify the deliberate targeting of civilians," Amnesty said.

Boko Haram, which staged a short-lived uprising in 2009, is blamed for almost daily attacks that have targeted mainly police and military personnel, politicians, and community and religious leaders.

The sect, whose name means "Western education is a sin", launched an uprising in 2009 which was put down by a brutal military assault that left hundreds dead, mostly its members.

The group claimed responsibility for the attack 11 days ago on police headquarters in the Nigerian capital Abuja that killed at least two people, including a policeman, saying their target was the national police chief.

The sect also said it was behind an attack on a beer garden in a military barracks in northern Bauchi city that killed more than a dozen people hours after the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Amnesty called on the Nigerian government to improve protection of residents in the northeast, and ensure the rule of law is respected.

"The Nigerian government can only ensure safety by investing heavily in reforming the criminal justice system, so that the perpetrators of these attacks and other human rights abuses can be properly investigated, arrested and prosecuted in fair trials."

Mexico nabs leader of cult-like La Familia cartel (AP)

MEXICO CITY ? Federal authorities apprehended the leader of the cult-like, pseudo-Christian La Familia cartel on Tuesday, saying they had dealt a debilitating blow to a major organized crime group that terrorized western Mexico.

Jose de Jesus Mendez Vargas, alias El Chango, or "The Monkey," was arrested in the central state of Aguascalientes without confrontation or casualties, said federal security spokesman Alejandro Poire.

A state official who was not authorized to speak on the record said Mendez was taken at a federal police checkpoint, but authorities didn't provide more details.

"With this arrest, what remained of the structure of this criminal organization has been destroyed," Poire told a news conference.

With the death of La Familia founder and leader Nazario Moreno Gonzalez in December, Poire said Mendez was "the last remaining head of a criminal group responsible for homicides, kidnappings, extortion, corruption and even cowardly attacks on the authorities and civilian population."

But the leadership of a violent splinter group, known as the Knights Templar, remains at large.

President Felipe Calderon personally lauded the arrest on his Twitter account, calling it a "big blow" to organized crime. The cartel was born in Calderon's home state of Michoacan in 2006, prompting him to deploy thousands of federal police there and warning that La Familia was corrupting local officials, extorting businesses and terrorizing the population.

According to the reward statement issued by the Attorney General's Office, Mendez was "responsible for the transfer and sale of cocaine, marijuana, crystal methamphetamine in various states of Mexico and the United States of America. He is the alleged mastermind of kidnappings and killings, mainly of members of other criminal organizations."

The government had offered a $2.5 million reward for his capture.

La Familia first appeared four years ago when it rolled five severed heads into a Michoacan nightclub, vowing to protect local citizens from rival cartels.

Moreno set a code of conduct for its members that prohibited the use of hard drugs or dealing them within Mexican territory, even as they gruesomely decapitated foes and sold cocaine and methamphetamine by the ton.

"They believe they are doing God's work, and pass out Bibles and money to the poor," according to a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration profile. "La Familia Michoacana also gives money to school and local officials."

Moreno was killed in December during two days of shootouts between his gang and federal police. After his death, the group split into warring factions, causing increased bloodshed in the state in western Mexico.

Mendez was believed to have remained the leader of the La Familia faction, according to federal police, while messages appeared in March that the Knights Templar sought to replace La Familia.

That name alludes to a Christian order of knights founded in 1118 in Jerusalem to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land after the First Crusade.

Former school teacher and La Familia leader Servando "La Tuta" Gomez is believed to lead the Knights Templar, federal police say. Gomez, who has not been arrested, is wanted in the U.S. for conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine, according to an October 2009 Justice Department indictment.

The indictment says he also may be behind the murder of 12 Mexican federal law enforcement officers whose bodies were found in July 2009 while he still operated under La Familia.

An increase in firefights between factions and clashes with police in Michoacan forced as many as 3,500 people to flee their hamlets in May and seek refuge in churches, schools and recreation centers in larger towns nearby.

Federal police arrested 36 La Familia members a short time later, seizing more than 70 rifles, 20,000 weapon cartridges, three grenades and 14 handguns in an air and land raid that left two officers injured.

Federal Police Commissioner Facundo Rosas said at the time that Mendez's faction had been substantially weakened.

Poire told reporters that with Mendez's arrest, 21 of the country's 37 top drug traffickers have been apprehended or killed since 2009.

More than 35,000 people have died in drug violence since, according to government figures. Local media say the number is closer to 40,000.

Ford has you covered if you're needing a video fur fix. The automaker has turned to a canine-powered Rube Goldberg device to help demonstrate the park assist system on its C-Max people mover. A pack of talented dogs play integral parts in a mechanism that unfurls a banner announcing the MPV's talents. Along the way, there are Hot Wheels cars, Nerf arrows and even a big wheel tricycle. We're not entirely sure what dogs and toys have to do with parallel parking, but we aren't in advertising, either.

To our eyes, this spot lacks the clever simplicity of the groundbreaking 'Cog' ad from Honda a few years back, and we're apparently not artistic enough to know why the colors in the video are so washed out (okay, so it's probably just a bad copy), but the good news is that it's still entertaining to watch a scruffy mutt parallel park a C-Max. A well-preserved Stradivarius violin has been sold in an online auction for £9.8m ($15.9m) to raise money for disaster relief in Japan.

The violin was made in 1721 and is known as the Lady Blunt after Lord Byron's granddaughter Lady Anne Blunt who owned it for 30 years.

It was sold by a music foundation in Japan for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in March.

The price is more than four times the previous record for a Stradivarius.

Proceeds will go to the Nippon Foundation's Northeastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.

The violin was offered for sale by the Nippon Music Foundation, owner of some of the world's finest Stradivari and Guarneri instruments.

Foundation president Kazuko Shiomi said: "While this violin was very important to our collection, the needs of our fellow Japanese people after the March 11th tragedy have proven that we all need to help, in any way we can.

"The donation will be put to immediate use on the ground in Japan."

London auction house Tarisio, who organised the sale, described the foundation's decision to sell "what is considered the finest violin of their collection" as a "gesture of profound generosity".

The violin is one about 600 instruments made by Italian Antonio Stradivari still in existence.

It has also been owned by several well-known collectors and experts including WE Hill & Son, Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, the Baron Johann Knoop and Sam Bloomfield.

The identity of its new owner has not been revealed.

The Lady Blunt fetched a then-record £84,000 when it was last auctioned at Sotheby's in 1971.

Donnie Wahlberg Faces 'The Human Centipede'

What does NKOTBSB (ed note: New Kids on the Block / Backstreet Boys, for those of you who don't immediately recognize the acronym ~~like me~~ -JW) do on the road? Aside from perfect their harmonies and sweet boy band dancing skills, well, they also watch bizarre horror flicks like "The Human Centipede."

Well, at least New Kids' resident bad boy, Donnie Wahlberg does. The hot topic came up (we promise, we didn?t bring it up) when MTV News caught up with the guys during a tour stop in New Jersey and Donnie very frequently dropped the movie's title several times during the conversation, usually making everyone in the room giggle.

"Listen, this is therapeutic for me," Wahlberg reacted with a grin when the frequent mention of "Human Centipede" was called into question. "It may seem funny to you..."

"The first time I saw this DVD, I picked it up at Target," he said of his initial encounter with "The Human Centipede," adding that "if it's clean enough for Target, it's clean enough for MTV." Not so sure we agree there, Donnie!

"I was disturbed for weeks. I had to watch it, so I could face the fear. And I faced it. And I feel better," he said of his current take on the horror flick now that he's seen it. "Face the fear. It's the only way. I would get random moments -- like I'd just be sitting around eating a sandwich and go 'ugh.' I'd think of the box of the DVD. Now I feel better. Now I can talk about it openly and I don't get queasy."

Now, I actually didn't realize what "The Human Centipede" is until I left the interview and sat down to write up this post. But, from my research, I've gathered that it's... mostly pretty upsetting. According to the internets, the Dutch horror flick, directed by a gentleman named Tom Six (who I have to say sounds like he has some issues to work through) is about a mad (like a truly, truly mad) scientist who kidnaps tourists and surgically binds them mouth to bum. Ouch!

I can't face the fear, Donnie Wahlberg. I'm sorry... but I can't.

Duane Pillette, American baseball player (Yankees, Browns, Orioles, Phillies) died he was , 88.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Duane Pillette came from a second-generation major league pitchers as his father, Herman Pillette, hurled for the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers between the 1917 and 1924 season. Interestingly, Pillette won a career-high 19 games in 1922, the year Duane was born.^[2]
Pillette entered the majors in 1949 with the New York Yankees, playing for them for two years. In his rookie season, he posted a 2-4 record and a 4.34 earned run average in 12 games for the World Champion Yankees.^[1]
During the 1950 midseason, New York sent Pillette to the St. Louis Browns along with Jim Delsing, Don Johnson, Snuffy Stirnweiss and cash consideration in exchange for Tom Ferrick, Joe Ostrowski and Leo Thomas. In 1951, while pitching for the Browns, Pillette led the American League in losses with 14, joining his father Herm, who also led the league with 19 losses while pitching for the 1923 Tigers.^[1]^[2]
Pillette pitched for the Browns until 1953, and was part of the Orioles from 1954 to 1955 after the franchise moved to Baltimore, Maryland. MBTA adds service for Stanley Cup victory parade

The MBTA will add extra subway service on all lines for Saturday?s celebration of the Boston Bruins? Stanley Cup championship.

Work on the Old Colony rail line will stop long enough to allow for service on a Saturday schedule. Taunton Senator Marc R. Pacheco and other? legislators sent a letter Thursday to MBTA General Manager Richard Davey requesting that train or bus service be available for the parade.

Service will be provided at near rush-hour levels all day, providing more frequent service before, during, and after the parade.

The MBTA expects the large crowds to cause delays.

Extra police will patrol the system throughout the day.

Because the celebration will begin at TD Garden at 11 a.m., riders are urged to avoid North Station and to use Haymarket, Government Center, Park Street and Downtown Crossing instead.

Commuter rail service will operate on a Saturday schedule, with extra coaches. Extra commuter rail trains will be on standby.

The 9, 10, 39, 43, 55, 92, 93 and 504 buses will be detoured as necessary.

Green line shuttle replacement service between North Station and Lechmere will also be detoured as necessary.

British targets found near body of al-Qaida leader (AP)

LONDON ? The Ritz Hotel in London and the elite private school Eton were among a handful of possible British terror targets that a senior al-Qaida leader was considering before he was killed in Somalia last week, a British security official said Thursday.

Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of attacks on two U.S. embassies in Africa that killed 224 people, was killed when he failed to stop at a routine checkpoint outside of Mogadishu, Somalia's capital.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has called the 38-year-old's death a "significant blow to al-Qaida, its extremist allies, and its operations in East Africa."

British officials have said they see al-Qaida affiliates in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula as being a significant threat to British interests.

"He was a fairly big player, but there is nothing to suggest that any reconnaissance had been done or that any of the attacks were imminent," a British security official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity in order to discuss intelligence matters.

It was not exactly clear how officials found the information on the British targets. There was no immediate evidence to suggest that Mohammed was working with British contacts or that he even understood where some of the intended targets were.

Amber Aldred, a Ritz spokeswoman, would not say whether extra security staff had been put on alert but said the hotel took security and threats seriously. The hotel has been named as a possible target in several terror plots in recent years.

Eton College, Britain's most elite private school where Prime Minister David Cameron and other politicians have been educated, is an hour outside of London.

Officials would not disclose details of the plots or other British targets, but said "now that he has been taken out, there's even less risk."

British intelligence officials have said dozens of youths have traveled to Somalia in recent years to attend terror training camps. Few have returned.

In 2009, a 17-year-old suicide bomber from the London suburb of Ealing blew himself up in a car bomb attack at a hotel in central Somalia, killing more than 20 people. Two Somali asylum-seekers were also among four men convicted of the failed attempts to bomb the London transport system on July 21, 2005 ? just two weeks after four suicide bombers killed 52 commuters during morning rush-hour attacks in London on July 7.

Mohammed, a native of the Comoros Islands, is also believed to have played a key role in the 2002 attack on the Paradise Hotel in Mombasa that killed 13 people, and the failed missile strike on an Israeli charter flight on the same day.

He had been on the run for more than a decade.
