This All-In-One Kit Lets You Grow Flowers You Can Eat

Obviously there are flowers you can eat. But be careful about digging around your garden to find some yourself. You could chomp on something poisonous and then?oops! You're dead! But if you've ever wanted to deck a cake out with some beautiful blooms, this Edible Flower Seed Kit from Sarah Rainwater is a safer bet.

For $50, each kit comes with four different types of seeds, soil, and a pretty wood and glass planter, along with instructions if your thumb is more brown than green. And assuming that's probably the case, the types of flowers were specially selected because they're easy to grow. In case you've ever wanted to dabble in fancy cake decorating, this is a good start. Leyland fumes after Cabrera brushed back

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera's 10th inning at-bat against Tampa Bay closer Fernando Rodney overshadowed the Rays' comeback victory.

Yunel Escobar had an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Rays rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday night.

But most of the attention after the game centered on Cabrera yelling at the Tampa Bay dugout after he struck out against Rodney. The Rays right-hander threw an in-tight and up pitch to back Cabrera off the plate during the at-bat.

"I don't know what he's saying," Rodney said. "I'm trying to do my job. You have to pitch inside sometimes. You have to pitch inside, outside, everywhere. You don't want to hit nobody because the game is on the line.

"That's what I got on my mind, try to move (him) a little bit because the guy is a dangerous hitter."

Cabrera declined to comment about the confrontation, but Tigers manager Jim Leyland talked about it in a strong way.

"I don't care about throwing inside, but I don't like it up there, and we will not tolerate that," Leyland said. "I'm not accusing anybody of anything but we won't tolerate that. If you're going to just rare back and throw it, you can't throw it there. That'll cause a lot of problems for people. That's not a good idea. That's not acceptable.

"We lost a tough game. They earned the win, they got the win, and OK, more power to them, but throwing in that area is not acceptable, and somebody pays the price for that throughout baseball. That's just the way baseball is. That's not free. There's no free lunch. That won't be tolerated. You can take that to the bank"

Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said he had no idea why Cabrera was upset.

"You'd have to ask him why," Maddon said. "I was kind of surprised, actually."

Rodney (3-2) threw two scoreless innings for the win

Cabrera went 1 for 4 with a walk, but his major league-leading batting average dropped two points to .375. He has a 14-game hitting streak.

James Loney had a one-out single in the 10th off Bruce Rondon (0-1). Pinch-runner Sam Fuld went to second on Wil Myers' single, and after Luke Scott struck out, both runners advanced on a wild pitch.

Escobar won it for the Rays with a line drive that sailed over the head of center fielder Austin Jackson.

"I'm very happy that I was able to help the team win," Escobar said through an interpreter.

Scott tied it at 3 on a solo homer with one out in the eighth off Tigers starter Justin Verlander, who allowed three runs, nine hits and four walks during a season-high eight innings. Verlander is winless in his last four starts.

"This is the game we've talked about that we have to start winning, and we won it tonight against a really good team," Maddon said.

Rays slugger Evan Longoria was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season due to a sore right foot. The third baseman, who left Friday night's game, is also expected to sit out on Sunday against the Tigers.

Jackson hit an opposite-field solo homer to right, and Jhonny Peralta had a two-run single off Chris Archer that put the Tigers ahead 3-0 in the third.

Archer gave up three runs, five hits, three walks and had three strikeouts in five innings.

Loney had an RBI single during the fifth to get the Rays within 3-2. Verlander avoided further damage by getting a double-play grounder from rookie Myers with two on and one out.

Loney grounded into a double play with runners on the corners and one out in the seventh. Myers flied out with two runners on to end the first.

Tampa Bay's Desmond Jennings tripled and scored on Ben Zobrist's grounder in the third. Jennings, playing in center, was charged with an error in the eighth, which snapped a streak of 262 games in the outfield without a miscue.

NOTES: Detroit RHP Anibal Sanchez (right shoulder strain) will pitch Monday in Florida for either Class A Lakeland or the rookie level Gulf Coast League Tigers. ... Loney extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the first. ... The Rays recalled INF Ryan Roberts from Triple-A Durham and optioned RHP Alex Colome to the International League club. ... Home plate umpire Dan Iassogna remained in the game after he appeared to get hit near the right wrist by a pitch from Rodney in the ninth that partially deflected off C Jose Molina's glove.

Former drug dealer says Bulger's name taboo on the street

By Stephanie Simon

BOSTON (Reuters) - A former cocaine dealer who sought to protect his criminal empire by aligning with reputed mobster James "Whitey" Bulger testified on Monday that even as he worked with Bulger's closest associates he knew better than to utter the boss's name.

Joseph Tower, who said he used to run a "pretty big empire" selling cocaine and marijuana in the Boston area, said everyone in the underworld knew not to mention the widely feared Bulger or even his nicknames - "Whitey" and "Boots" - in connection with any sort of criminal activity.

As he made the rounds collecting his cut of drug profits, Bulger was referred to as "the other guy," Tower said.

His testimony came at the end of a day devoted mostly to a sharp-edged cross-examination of former FBI Agent John Morris, who has admitted to taking bribes from gangsters and tipping them off about federal investigations during his years at the helm of the FBI's organized crime squad in Boston.

Bulger, 83, is on trial for killing or ordering the murders of 19 people while at the helm of the Winter Hill Gang, which authorities say ran bloody extortion and gambling rackets in Boston during the 1970s and '80s.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, though his defense attorney acknowledged in opening statements that Bulger ran an "unbelievably lucrative criminal enterprise."

At one point, Morris - who ran the FBI's Boston organized crime squad before leaving the bureau in 1995 - made an emotional apology to the family of one of the innocent bystanders allegedly killed by Bulger.

"I don't want to ask for your forgiveness, but I do want to express my sincere apology for things that I may have done and things that I didn't do," Morris said, his face reddening and his eyes tearing as he addressed the family of Michael Donahue.

Donahue was killed in a hail of gunfire as he and Edward Brian Halloran left a restaurant in May 1982. Shortly before the murder, Morris had told another corrupt FBI agent, John Connolly, that Halloran had become an FBI informant. Connolly turned that information over to Bulger.

Morris said he hadn't meant to leak the news that Halloran had turned informant but "somehow it happened."

Defense attorney Hank Brennan asked: "You knew ? you were signing Mr. Halloran's death warrant?"

"No," Morris said, explaining that he believed Halloran to be in a witness protection program. "I thought he was going to be safe."

Morris, his voice cracking, turned to Donahue's widow and sons, who were sitting in court.

"Not a day in my life has gone by that I haven't thought about this," he said. "I do not ask your forgiveness. That's too much. But I do acknowledge it publicly."

During an aggressive cross-examination, Brennan aimed to discredit Morris by leading him through a litany of his corrupt acts during his tenure at the FBI, including taking money and gifts from Bulger and other informants, obstructing justice, tipping off organized crime about FBI investigations, carrying on an affair with his secretary and lying repeatedly - under oath - to cover up those actions.

Morris, who was granted immunity for his testimony about FBI misconduct in 1998, now works as a part-time wine consultant and continues to receive a government pension. Connolly is serving a 40-year prison term for murder and racketeering.

After Morris stepped down, Tower took the witness stand, speaking so rapidly and with such animation that the judge had to ask him to slow down.

Asked to identify Bulger in the courtroom, Tower paused dramatically, looked around for a moment and then pointed his finger at the defense table. "How're you doing, Jim," he said with a smile and a nod.

Tower said Bulger urged him to work with his associates and provided him protection for his cocaine business. Bulger, he said, regularly came around to collect a share of the proceeds.

"Mr. Bulger would have to be paid because ? he was the protection, he was the OK," Tower said.

The defense will cross-examine Tower on Tuesday.

Instagram gets hit by spam, and it's fruity, too

If you noticed photos of fruit showing up in your Instagram feed Saturday, you might think it was to help you feel cooler, especially if you're in one of the Western states suffering from the heat wave. But it's not. In fact, it may be one of the first major spam attacks to hit the popular photo-sharing service.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, told NBC News that "earlier today, a small portion of our users experienced a spam incident where unwanted photos were posted from their accounts."

The fruit spam is a ploy to get you to click on the photo, and then a link for some kind of "miracle" fruit diet. The concern is how the spammers got into Instagram user accounts to do so.

Om Malik, of GigaOm, wrote that "Spammers are posting the photos to a user?s profile, as well as changing the URL in that person?s bio."

Facebook said that its security and spam team "quickly took actions to secure the accounts involved and the posted photos are being deleted."

Those users whose accounts were spammed have had their passwords re-set by Facebook, which is notifying them about the re-set. Users should take precautions, though, and check their Instagram profiles and security settings.

"General best practices are to use unique password for all of your online accounts, and if you've used the same password in the past, to go ahead and proactively change it to something unique," a Facebook spokeswoman said.

Since Instagram launched in 2010, approximately 16 billion photos have been shared on it. Facebook, which bought Instagram last year, recently added the capability to add video to Instagram.
